New registrations of .si domains jumped from 3,515 in August to 46,066 in September 2026, after President Trump floated “SI” as a name for AI on September 19. He repeated it at the UN on September 22 and made it federal usage by executive order on September 29. Many new names are speculative, so check history, trademarks and completed sales.
.si is Slovenia’s country-code domain. For AI companies it reads as SuperIntelligence. That reading is our framing, not an official meaning.
According to Register.si, Trump’s September 19 social media posts offered alternative names for AI, including “Superior Intelligence (SI)”. Since September 29, Executive Order 14434 has used “SI” for Super Intelligence in federal documents. The order has nothing to do with Slovenia’s domain; only the letters match. Our complete guide to the .si domain covers the basics; this article is the dated record.
How fast .si domains grew: the registry’s own data
Register.si counted 46,066 new .si registrations in September 2026, about 13 times August’s 3,515. The total rose from 172,227 domains at the end of 2025 to 303,352 at 18:01 UTC on October 5, 2026.

The monthly figures come from the chart in the registry’s growth notice, published October 2, 2026 and updated October 4. They exclude deletions, so they show new registrations, not net growth. The registry logged 29,410 new names in all of 2025, fewer than in September 2026 alone.
Before the rush, the pace was steady. Between September 2025 and April 2026, new registrations ranged from 2,324 to 3,959 a month. May and June 2026 were busier, at 6,342 and 6,938, and July and August fell back to 3,109 and 3,515.

Daily peaks
On September 19, the day of the Truth Social posts, the registry logged 143 new names. Registrations reached 2,139 on September 22 and 4,478 on September 23, then stayed between 3,264 and 5,059 a day through September 29.
A second wave began on September 30, with 11,331 new names in one day. October 1 to 4 added 50,100 more, and October 4 was the busiest calendar day so far, at 13,651. Earlier, September 1 to 18 produced about 2,310 names in total, or roughly 128 a day.
Why 3,234 and 4,478 are both quoted for September 23
The figure of 3,234 new .si names on September 23 comes from the Austrian registrar Domaintechnik, which analyzed DomainNameStat data. CircleID reported it on October 1, and our own superintelligence domains overview uses it. DomainNameStat measures the zone with its own method, while the registry’s chart counts calendar days and shows 4,478 for September 23. Both describe the same surge; this record uses the registry’s calendar days.
Rolling “last 24 hours” readings of the registry counter, such as the 13,603 CircleID reported on October 1, also differ from calendar-day counts. Totals rise by the hour, so earlier same-day readings are lower. TNW reported 298,682 in an update published at 13:37 UTC on October 5, while our check at 18:01 UTC showed 303,352.
Search demand has not caught up yet. Ahrefs shows “.si domain” at 700 monthly searches in the US and 3,300 worldwide, and “si domains” at 60 and 150 (October 5, 2026). These 12-month averages do not yet reflect the September spike.
.si vs .ai: how new registrations compare
In the week of September 23 to 29, 2026, new .si registrations outnumbered new .ai registrations by about 2.4 to 1. Domaintechnik’s analysis of DomainNameStat data counted 17,621 new .si names and 7,209 new .ai names.
That comparison, reported by CircleID on October 1, uses a different method from the registry. Register.si’s own calendar-day figures add up to 28,672 new .si names for the same seven days. Do not mix the two.
Netcraft reported that .si overtook .ai in new registrations “in the 25 hours after” the September 22 UN speech. It also pointed to price: about $11 a year for a .si name, against about $180 for the minimum two-year .ai registration.
Who is registering .si domains
Much of the new demand looks speculative. At one registrar, Netcraft found about half of the early .si rush names already listed for resale.
In its September 24 analysis, Netcraft looked at the .si names it detected at Dynadot between 15:29 UTC on September 19 and 15:00 UTC on September 22. About 52% of them were listed on Dynadot’s aftermarket. That window covers one registrar and about three days, not all .si names.
The same analysis found that more than 44,000 registered .si names share the same second-level string as a registered .ai name, about 22% of all .si domains. Around 1,500 of these pairs resolved to the same IP address, though many are advertised as holding pages or for sale.
Data on buyer geography comes from one company. Hostinger told TechCrunch in early October, as TNW relayed on October 5, that more than half of its .si buyers are in the US and India. It added that only about 3% of the names are explicitly about AI.
The market was investor-led before the rush, too. Domain Name Wire reviewed 35 public .si sales from January 1 to June 9, 2026, and found only two that looked like end users. One Chinese investor accounted for 11 of the 35.
What .si domains sell for: completed sales vs asking prices
Completed .si sales on public record in 2026 are in the four and five figures: recursive.si sold for $20,000 (May 23, 2026) and military.si for $1,795 (January 1 to June 9, 2026). Multi-million figures in headlines, such as build.si at $10 million (September 30, 2026), are asking prices. They show what a seller wants, not what a buyer paid.
| Domain | Type | Price | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| recursive.si | Completed sale | $20,000 | May 23, 2026 | NameBio report; buyer named by Domain Name Wire |
| military.si | Completed sale | $1,795 | January 1 to June 9, 2026 | Domain Name Wire |
| ai.si | Reported sale | $34,000 | May 2025 | TechStory, citing TLDInvestors |
| build.si | Asking price | $10 million | September 30, 2026 | N1/STA |
| seed.si | Asking price | $8 million | September 30, 2026 | N1/STA |
| beautiful.si, coding.si, predict.si | Asking price | $5 million each | September 30, 2026 | N1/STA |
| ai.si | Asking price | $699,995 | October 5, 2026 | TechStory, citing a post on X |
| buysidomains.si portfolio (10 names) | Fixed asking prices | €900 to €12,000 | October 2026 | buysidomains.si |
In Domain Name Wire’s review of 2026 sales to June 9, the largest end-user sale is recursive.si at $20,000, reported by NameBio for May 23, 2026. It identified the buyer as Recursive, an AI company whose website mentions superintelligence. According to the same June 11 analysis, military.si sold for $1,795 to the company behind Militaria.pl.
The $34,000 sale of ai.si in May 2025 appears only in a TechStory report citing TLDInvestors; we found no primary sale record. IBTimes reported on September 30 that completed-sale records show “four- and five-figure transactions” for .si names.
Our portfolio lists 10 .si names at fixed asking prices from €900 to €12,000 (October 2026), and those are not sales either. buysidomains.si sells .si names, so we have an interest in this market; weigh our numbers with that in mind.
What Register.si says about the rush
In a notice on September 24, 2026, Register.si, the .si registry, said it charges every registrar the same €10 fee and does not accept direct registrations. It sees no real basis for media speculation about “million-dollar profits for Slovenia” (our translation) and urges holders of trademarks, slogans and company names without a .si domain to register one.
The September 24 notice marked 200,000 domains and said each registrar’s own policy sets the final price. It counted about 90 registrars. N1/STA reported 92 on September 30, and the registry homepage listed 94 on October 5.
Klara Herman, the registry’s spokeswoman, was quoted by Euronews on September 29 describing a “strong but stable increase” in requests for .si names since the UN speech.
The risks of buying .si domains after the rush
The main risks are paying for speculation, buying a typo of someone else’s .ai brand and inheriting a trademark dispute. Inflated asking prices and an unproven insider-trading claim make the market harder to read.
Speculation and inflated asking prices
When half of one registrar’s early rush names go straight to resale, supply is large and asking prices reflect hopes, not trades. Listings of $5 million to $10 million for single words have no completed sale behind them. Demand also depends on companies adopting “SI” as a brand term. On October 1, Domain Name Wire, citing Leanne Mac’s Product Hunt tracking, reported no .si startup launches in the previous 30 days, against 50 .ai launches that day.
Typosquatting between .si and .ai
Netcraft warns that “a .si domain is a one-keystroke typo of its .ai equivalent” because s sits next to a on a QWERTY keyboard. Its examples of names bought before the UN speech and then listed for resale included boeing.si, donaldjtrump.si and vaccination.si. A name that mirrors a known .ai brand can draw traffic by mistake and, with it, a legal claim.
Trademark and ADR exposure
Disputes over .si names go through ARDS, the registry’s alternative dispute procedure. A case before one arbiter costs €700 including VAT for one to five domains and €1,200 for six to ten, and a panel doubles the fee. The complainant bears the costs.
The insider-trading allegation
On September 30, Adam Cochran alleged in an X thread that insiders had profited from .si names registered before the Truth Social posts. Treat it as unproven. IBTimes UK reviewed the claim the same day and wrote: “The registration surge is documented. The ownership claim is not.”
A checklist before you buy a .si domain
Before buying a .si domain, check four things: when the name was registered, how it was used, whether it conflicts with a trademark and what completed sales say about its price. Then pay through escrow and finish the transfer before the funds are released.
- Look up the registration date. The registry’s RDAP service at rdap.register.si/domain/ followed by the name shows the registration date, last change, expiry and status, but no holder data. For example, recursive.si shows a registration date of September 17, 2025, and a last change on June 10, 2026.
- Check the history. Past owners and spam use affect a name’s reputation; our guide to checking domain history lists the tools.
- Search trademarks. Check the exact string in the trademark databases of your target markets, and look for an identical .ai brand one keystroke away.
- Compare completed sales, not asking prices. Use dated public sales like those in the table above, and read our guide to domain value before you make an offer.
- Pay through escrow. A neutral escrow service holds the funds until the name is in your account, as our domain escrow guide explains.
- Transfer correctly. .si names are registered only through registrars, so the change runs through one. Confirm in RDAP that the last-changed date has updated, and note your registrar’s renewal price, since the €10 registry fee is not a retail price.
For a .si name behind a real product, these checks matter more than the headlines. For resale, the data shows large supply and few documented end-user sales, and nothing here predicts what any name will be worth.
